Obituary for Gerald Herbert Beier

Found peace on June 30, 2017 at the age of 92 years. Beloved husband of the late Margaret Beier (nee Erdmann), cherished father of Barbara (Norman) Hopfensperger, Dr. Sue(Patrick) Hanratty and Gary (Kathryn) Beier and good friend of the late Shirley DeCaluwe. Jerry leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Todd (Jessica) Beier, Elyse (Robert) Shaw, Jeff Beier, Sarah (Steve) Munson and Paul (Kari) Hopfensperger and Jennifer (Keith) Herm as well as great grandchildren; Cody, Sean Alex, Macy, Drake, Tela and Trey. He also had one great, great granddaughter, Gracie. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert and sister Audrey as well as brother-in-law, Robert Erdmann. Jerry served his country during World War Two in the Pacific theatre as a Master Sergeant with the military police. He had a distinguished career in banking with 50 years of service to the industry, beginning with the former American City Bank where he rose from teller to Vice President. He then partnered with a group of Milwaukee entrepreneurs to form University National Bank and finally completed his career as President and co-chairman of Citizens Bank of Shawano. Mr. Beier also had a distinguished history of community and faith service. He is a past President of Ascension Lutheran Church, Milwaukee; city treasurer for the March of Dimes, past Rotarian, Kiwanis Golden K Club, Forward Wisconsin, Shawano County Treasurer for the Salvation Army and member of Governor Thompson’s Highway 29 reconstruction commission along with a multitude of other community activities in both Milwaukee and Shawano. Jerry was also an active Freemason for 60 years, raised at James M. Hayes Lodge in 1956. He served as Master of Shawano Lodge #170, Dousman Lodge #315 and Glenn L. Humphrey Lodge #363 and was a member of La Crosse Lodge #45. He served as Thrice Potent Master of Wisconsin Scottish Rite- Valley of Milwaukee in 1972 and was a Noble member of both Tripoli Shrine, Milwaukee and Beja Shrine in Green Bay, where he served as President of the Shawano Shrine Club and was an avid bell-ringer for the club’s annual Salvation Army Red Kettle holiday fund drive for over 20 years. Mr. Beier’s life personified a dedication to family, fraternity, community and his Lord. Our special thanks to the wonderfully caring staff of Three Pillars, Wisconsin Masonic Home, which Jerry called home for over 17 years. Visitation Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the Ewald Chapel in the Three Pillars Village on the Square (375 State Road 67, Dousman, WI) at 2 PM until time of Masonic Service at 4 PM. Interment Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Wisconsin Masonic Home or the charity of your choice appreciated.
