Obituary for Arnold "Arnie" Barry Garber

Friday, October 26, 2018 Arnold Barry Garber of Glendale, Wisconsin, formerly of Chelsea, Massachusetts, died at the Sarah Chudnow rehab center in Mequon, WI after an extended illness. Arnold was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on May 21, 1935, son of the late Ben Garber and Rebecca Mekelburg Garber. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Nicewicz Garber, his son Bruce (Janice ) Garber of Midland, GA, his three grandchildren; Caitlin (James) Romano, Kerrin (Jason) DuPree, and Brian Garber, and one great-granddaughter; Brynn DuPree. He is also survived by his sister Cynthia Bernstein of Canton, MA and his brother Larry Mack of Greenville, NC. He was predeceased by his sisters; Roberta Campbell and Bayla Mack. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. He received his physical therapy certification from Northeastern University. In 1968 Arnie moved his family to Milwaukee to become the trainer for the Milwaukee Bucks where he was the trainer of the 1971 NBA Championship team. He also was the trainer for the Milwaukee Does of the WNBA. He coached the Racine Raiders football team and was inducted into the American Football Association Minor League Hall of Fame in 1999. Arnie was a longtime assistant coach of the Concordia University football team and in 2003 was inducted into the William Ackmann Memorial Sports Hall of Fame at Concordia University. He was a member of Milwaukee Harmony and James M. Hays Masonic Lodges, the Tripoli Shrine, Director’s Staff, Tripoli band, El Hajj and Jesters. Longtime Board member of the Scimitar Foundation. Visitation at the Bevsek-Verbick Funeral Home-West Allis Friday, November 2, 2018 from 3:30pm until time of Masonic Service at 6PM. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks for donations to be made in Arnold's name to Shriners Hospitals for Children-Minneapolis or Scimitar Foundation. Either donations can be sent to 3000 W. Wisconsin Ave. Milwaukee, WI 53208.
